We’re on our way! Hooray!
But wait a minute! Where are we going?
If we don’t know where we are headed it doesn’t matter how fast we are moving.
When we first began writing together we spent time praying and discussing our vision. We wanted to have a vision statement for our work to keep us in line with each other and more importantly to keep us in line with God.
Early on we chose a Bible verse to guide us:
We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done. Psalm 78:4
This verse has been like a compass to us pointing us in the right direction and keeping us on track. At first we saw the next generation as children. We began to expand our vision to see the next generation as adults too.
This statement of purpose helps us in many ways:
- It helps us make decisions about how to spend our time.
- It keeps us focused on the goal instead of on small problems.
- It reminds us that we are not in control, God is in control.
Do you have a statement of purpose for your writing?
Do you know where you are going?

Ironically, this has been on my mind lately. My vision is the St. Francis prayer…Lord, make me an instrument of your peace….
yes – blessed are the peacemakers.
This is so important to remember…we write for the glory of God! My purpose is this: to make Scripture and History come alive for my readers. Thanks for your post!

God’s purpose! Thanks for the sweet post. Love the photo. Is that you and your sis?

You started me thinking. Right now my purpose is just to write what God leads me to write, mostly on my blog. I have no idea where He might take me with it and my current purpose it to work at my skills, share with those who read my blog and possess my soul in patience. Soon I may try to set a goal for the next step. Thanks for putting that in the front of my mind.

I do actually, and it’s great that you ask the question. Happy day. Love, sheri
I really appreciate this, Sisters, and could easily adopt your statements as my own–but I think I’ll ponder a bit! Perhaps the reason I haven’t finished my novel, is that I had no “compass” like you speak of. Thank you for always being so helpful! God bless you Big–love, sis Caddo
Pondering is good, Sis.
Philippians 4:8 is the verse that keeps me focused, but a statement of purpose … Hmm. I will work on this. Thanks so much!
love that verse – I used it effectively one time to combat some negative thoughts that I couldn’t seem to quash. 4:8 did the trick! Thanks for calling our attention to that great verse.
Well, I don’t have a statement of purpose for my writing either. Thank you for bringing this up .. will go to Him with it in prayer. I mostly see myself as an encourager, so will see what He gives me! Thank you and God bless you!
Good plan!
