“But Moses said to God, ‘Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?’” Exodus 3:11
Do you question your ability, thinking you aren’t qualified to write? Do you wish you had tougher skin? You are not alone.
I can begin to question myself when I look at my own puny abilities and strength.
Moses questioned his qualifications. “Who am I?” he asked God. And what was God’s answer? ”I will be with you.” The same God who equipped Moses, can equip you.
When I look at myself through God’s eyes and realize that He is with me, everything changes. God can work through me.
Continue to do your part – attend writing conferences, pray before you write, read books on writing, and write, write, write. After all, it’s a skill. But trust God to do His part – to equip you and use you.
Near the end of his life Moses encouraged others with what he had learned about God from his experiences:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
If God has called you to write, He will be right there with you. As we move forward we experience His faithfulness and begin to see ourselves differently.
How do you see yourself today?

“People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
I Samuel 16:7b

“If God has called you to write, He will be right there with you.” … so true, so true!
After reading my blog, a friend asked if I was a writer. I wasn’t sure how to respond. Thanks for the encouragement!!
The answer is a resounding YES.
One of the hard things for me is spending so much time teaching kids to write when I would love to spend all my time doing it! But there is joy and purpose in that, too . . . and provision. Sigh.
Bless you for investing in the children.
I don’t look in the mirror much–because it doesn’t show who I really am…
Very encouraging – thanks!
Great, practical advice here. Moses did not see the potential there because he thought he had to do everything himself. That was not true and look how it turned out.
Wonderful encouragement! Thanks sweet sistuhs!
Thanks for the sentiment. So true.
I have been following your blog for awhile and reading your advice on writing.
What is your opinion of the Institute of Children’s Literature? I completed about half of their course a few years back and can pick up where I left off…. are you familiar with this particular coursework?
We have heard good things about it and have known a few friends who have participated. Joining the SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) is also a good idea. They have lots of helpful workshops and local critique groups.
Thank you so much for the information.
