In prayer and in the creative process, the mind and the heart, the intellect and the intuition, the conscious and the subconscious stop fighting each other as they so often do and collaborate. As two people do who know each other, who love each other. And if the love of two people is a gift, a totally unmerited gift, so is the union of mind and heart.

The Writing Sisters (Betsy Duffey and Laurie Myers) have been writing for children for over twenty years, publishing more than thirty-five books with a variety of companies. They write primarily chapter books, and have published both individually and together with their mother, Newbery winner Betsy Byars.

  1. Joining mind and heart is an amazing and often difficult process. I love to watch athletes(I am not athletic) and when they seem to achieve that ZEN mode I think Mind and Hear united. I think the world of Madeleine L’Engle and her quote is amazing; I do think there are many other creative processes that unite mind and heart; ask a great chef, a painter, a sculptor or anyone who would rather meditate than pray. Thanks for sharing the quote did get all gears on my brain flowing!
