How do I work? I grope.
Albert Einstein
To grope means to search blindly or uncertainly. There are days when the way is clear and certain in my work. Those days are too few. Most often in my writing the way is unknown. We forge ahead blindly trusting that the words will come. Slowly one word at a time we find our way.
Maybe like life?
I’m groping today. How about you?
Betsy

I’m groping but grateful today – after all, there’s no light without darkness. In my writing, and in my life.
Nice! Makes me grateful too.
That’s one of my favorite Einstein quotes. Knowing that even great minds struggle helps me when I do.
Yes, If Einstein struggled with his work there is hope for all of us. Thanks, Tracey
I do a lot of groping. Thanks for the quote!
Thanks Darlene, Nice to know that we are not alone.
Sometimes it’s like that: one word at a time. That’s ok too
Hi Holly,
Got to always be thankful for that one word. Could be nothing! Thanks for adding to the post.
I really enjoy your blog. You always seem to be talking about something I need to be listening to. With “groping” you hit my predicament right on. I’m 1/4 through a first draft teasing out one word at a time. You have no idea how comforting it is to know that other writers do the same. Your blog is insightful and wise. Thank you.
Jo-Ann
Thanks Jo-Ann, For me the writing come so easily at first, then trickles down to that groping. Like you said, teasing out one word at a time. It’s nice to know that many of us struggle.
Definitely “groping”, and more grateful today than yesterday–thank you, Lord! God bless you, Sisters–love, sis Caddo
Thanks for your comment. I need to think more about why groping makes us grateful. I guess it is humbling. Have a great weekend.
There is many a day in my writing where the conclusion I arrive at has nothing to do with the destination I set out for … certainly sounds like groping to me. Thanks for stirring our thought process.
