“Go to the edge of the cliff and jump off. Build your wings on the way down.”

“Don’t think. Thinking is the enemy of creativity. It’s self-conscious, and anything self-conscious is lousy. You can’t try to do things. You simply must do things.”

“I know you’ve heard it a thousand times before. But it’s true – hard work pays off. If you want to be good, you have to practice, practice, practice. If you don’t love something, then don’t do it.”

“You must live life at the top of your voice! At the top of your lungs shout and listen to the echoes.”

”I don’t need an alarm clock. My ideas wake me.”

 ”Don’t talk about it; write.”

  1. We’ve lost a talented and unique individual and a creative mind. Lots of technological advances in Mr. Bradbury’s lifetime, many of them surely making him pause to wonder if the science fiction he created had ceased to be fiction!

Writes ComPost’s Alexandra Petri: “He loved books. He wrote like a man who loved books.”

As you quoted, this lover of books said, “Go to the edge of the cliff and jump off. Build your wings on the way down.” I think Ray Bradbury was a master wing-builder!

Another sad story to come out recently. It seems like we’re losing so many wonderful writers and artists lately :( I first read “451″ back in High School and have loved it ever since. May he RIP… and may we never become as mindless and creepy as the people he depicted- no matter how many bad reality shows come out.

  3. What a fun clever way to honour a great writer! All your choices of quotes were amazing and my favorite was…. “Don’t think. Thinking is the enemy of creativity. It’s self-conscious, and anything self-conscious is lousy. You can’t try to do things. You simply must do things.”

  4. Thank you for “introducing” me to Ray–evidently there was much more to the man than I realized previously.
