“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.”

Hadn’t remembered this from Lewis but of course, as with most of his writing, it is just the thing to say.
This really speaks to what God is doing in my life and many others. Thank you for sharing.
Renovation hurts!
Great quote.
Jack really had a way with words! Thanks for posting this.
C.S. Lewis is just very nearly my favorite author! I had forgotten this part about God wants to build us into a palace and come and live inside of us! Bless you for this wonderful reminder!

Thanks for sharing the link! I loved what you wrote about the quote.
I used to read C S Lewis avidly as a young man, quite simply He’s the best author ever!
I’m not sure if you can get everything in USA but the longer biographies are amazing, and forget the film version “Shadowlands”, the true story is utterly breathtaking. Joy and tragedy all rolled into one.
